The passenger's occupation as stated on the arrival card. (Collected for all permanent and long-term migrants/migrants)

Variable notes

Many migrants are coded to the following residual categories:

• "Response unidentifiable" – occupation stated, but not detailed enough to code to a specific occupation category.

• "Response outside scope" – passenger is outside the workforce. This includes passengers under 15 years of age, and passengers who give such responses as student, child, mum, housewife, retired, and unemployed.

• "Not stated" – no occupation stated.
