Corrections and revisions

When we compiled the Local Authority Statistics: September 2016 quarter release we implemented some processing system improvements.

The improvements include more consistent methods for dealing with irregularities in the reported data, and are aimed at improving the coherence of data across time and between Local Authority Survey, Local Authority Census and the annual reports of local councils.

The revisions affect historical data going back to June 2009. The series affected include: Rates, Sales and other operating income, Purchases and other operating expenditure, and Current grants, subsidies and donations income.

The estimates that we revised through these system improvements are identified by the revised (R) status besides actual estimates in tables 3 and 6 and the downloadable csv file included in this release. Tables 7 and 8 show the magnitude of the revisions to estimates from the September 2013 quarter onwards.

The tables and csv file also show we have revised many seasonally adjusted estimates since the June 2016 quarter release in September 2016. They reflect both our improvements and our updating of seasonal factors for each quarter (to incorporate the latest data).
