Description
A family (as defined for the Childcare Survey) is a couple with a child or children or a sole parent/guardian with a child or children all of whom reside in the same household. At least one of the children must be under 14 years of age. For the purposes of the childcare survey, children in joint custody usually reside at the place where they spend more nights, or if they spend equal amounts of time at each residence, they usually reside at the place they are at the time of the survey. This means that some children classified as being in one-parent families may have two active parents in different households.
