CEN Historical Ethnicity Group1

The self-perceived ethnicity recorded for that person with the lowest code number.

Note: The _rand3 variables are historical. For recent ethnicity variables, use the cen_ind_eth_rand6 variables. The _rand3 variables are the three ethnicities that were randomly chosen for use in the historical time series. These are anachronistic now but are included so that research based on previously published work on earlier census results can be replicated.

Note: The group number for ethnicities, languages, and religions are not ranked, but are reported in ascending numerical order by code. This means the lowest code marked for a person is included in grp1. The survey question was presented as tickboxes. The use of tickboxes invalidates any reference to relative order.
