Variable Description
This variable identifies family types by child dependency status. It is a derived variable.
‘Family type by child dependency status’ categorises family type by the dependency status of any children present in the family nucleus:
- whether there are dependent children only
- adult children only
- children of unknown dependency status
- a combination of some or all of these child dependency statuses within the family.
‘Child dependency status’ is a modular derived variable that measures the dependency status of children in a family nucleus. It can be applied (embedded or nested) to the following classifications: ‘Family type’ and ‘Household composition’. ‘Modular’ means that is not a stand-alone classification; it must always be combined with other variables to create output classifications.
‘Family type by child dependency status’ is a derivation of the standard classifications for family type and the modular classification for child dependency status.
For classification see Ariā.
Please note that there may be differences in definitions between census classifications and those used for other data collections.
