Description

Events detail the specific interactions made with Corrections. These are presented in chronological order. For example, when the offender or offender identity track is remanded on initial charge, sentenced to prison, sentenced to community detention, released on parole, etc. The first event is always the offender identity birth event. Events are the most specific variable in terms of tracked activity with Corrections.

As periods can overlap in this table, this variable codes for the first event taking place in that period for the offender identity track.

The track types are listed below: A_ Aggregate (the length of time calculated when all such sentences are combined. Many offenders are sent to prison after being convicted of multiple offence s, and multiple sentences may be imposed. Some of these sentences may be concurrent, while others are cumulative. Depending on the length of the aggregate sentence, the offender with then (under the 2002 Sentencing and Parole Acts) serve between one-third and the entire term) C_ Charge (a formal statement (usually by a Police officer) that a person is accused of having committed an offence) I_ Identity (an offender identity keeping track of birth, deportation and death events. An offender can only have one identity track) O_ Order (a formal direction from the court) R_ Remand (an adjournment of a hearing of a criminal charge to a later date) S_ Sentence (the punishment the defendant will be given. Sentencing happens when a defendant has pleaded guilty or been found guilty)
