Prioritised ethnic group

Ethnicity is the ethnic group or groups people identify with or feel they belong to. Thus, ethnicity is self-perceived and people can belong to more than one ethnic group. Where more than one ethnic group is reported in the ethnic code fields, the Statistics NZ prioritisation algorithm is used to report only a single ethnicity.
