Methodology
External data influencers
We collected data in this release in the June 2020 quarter (April to June).
Changes in income may be influenced by one-off events. Events that could have influenced the June 2020 quarter data include:
- COVID-19
- the rise in the adult minimum wage from $17.70 to $18.90 (effective from 1 April 2020)
- general annual adjustments to benefits and New Zealand Superannuation rates (effective from 1 April 2019)
- collective agreements in teaching and healthcare occupations.
Response Rate
As the Labour Market Statistics (Income) content is collected as part of the Household Labour Force Survey (HLFS), the same target response rate and target achieved sample rate apply.
The target response rate for the HLFS is 90 percent and target achieved sample rate is 76 percent. The response rate for the June 2020 quarter was 74.3 percent and the achieved sample rate was 69.8 percent. Please note that while the response rate and achieved sample rate are lower than in recent quarters, the overall sample was expanded in order to achieve a similar number of survey respondents.
See New quality measures for the Household Labour Force Survey for more information on the sample rate and response rates.
See Labour Market Statistics: June 2020 quarter for more information on the impact of Covid-19 on collection period and response rates in the HLFS.
