The work-related injury claims information release provide annual statistics of work-related injury claims. Each report provides provisional figures for the current year, and final figures for the previous year. The figures presented are for claims that are accepted by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) for work-related injury. The statistics are based on one claim for each person for each injury event. The information in each release covers all claims for work-related injury, including claims involving entitlement payments (for example, compensation and support for returning to independence) and claims for fatal injuries. Each annual release provides commentary on the number and incidence rate (measured as the number of claims per 1,000 full-time equivalent employees (FTEs)) of injuries. The data in the information release is not a definitive count of all work-related injury because not all injuries result in a claim to ACC.
The work-related injury claims information release provides detailed information about work-related injury claims in New Zealand on an annual basis. This information is used for research purposes, to inform policy and also to monitor injury prevention initiatives at a national level.
