IDI Drivers Licence & Motor Vehicles Registers data (NZTA)

The New Zealand Transport Agency Transport (NZTA) data documents the content of the Driver’s Licence Register Conditions, Driver’s Licence Register Historic, Driver’s Licence Register, and Motor Vehicle Register tables that the NZTA provides to Stats NZ to use in the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI). The NZTA datasets contain administrative data collected from 1900 to (ongoing) for driver licence information related to people who hold, or have held, a New Zealand driver licence and motor vehicle licence information for people with a vehicle currently registered in their name. This documents the content of the transport-related information the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) provides to Statistics New Zealand to use in the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI). The transport data includes information on driver licence holders, motor vehicles, and motor vehicle ownership. This dictionary gives information on the variables contained in the transport dataset from 2016 onwards – including technical information and descriptions.

NZTA provides transport data to Statistics NZ for integration into the IDI. The transport datasets contain data about driver licensing and motor vehicle ownership. The inclusion of these datasets will enhance our understanding of the impact driver licensing and motor vehicle ownership have on well-being and labour market outcomes of New Zealanders.
