Variable name: Years Since Arrival in New Zealand Years Since Arrival in New Zealand is derived from Month of arrival in New Zealand and Year of arrival in New Zealand. This question is dependent on the responses to the Usual Residence and Birthplace questions. Definition: The length of time up to census day in completed years (including any intervening absences, whether temporary or long-term) since a respondent who was born outside of New Zealand first arrived to live in New Zealand as a permanent or long-term resident. Questionnaire: Individual form question 10 Subject population: Overseas Born Census Usually Resident Population. Non-response: 2001 - 21.4% (1996 - 25.2%) 8.7% (when substitute forms are excluded) Quality level: Years Since Arrival in New Zealand is a supplementary variable. Comparability with previous census data: Comparable with 1996, question was not asked in 1991. Things to be aware of: There are some inconsistencies when combining this variable with Age, Usual Residence Five Years Ago and Years at Usual Residence.
